LAST CALL FOR DEMOCRACY, Y’ALL
It’s always best to be proactive and try to prevent disaster than to wait for a disaster and then respond—not exactly a profound statement. We can maintain our infrastructure or we can respond to failures. Improperly maintained bridges can collapse and they can be replaced [if only the lost lives could be recovered]. Failures almost always leave room for recovery regardless of how disastrous, expensive, or painful it may be.
We have an impending failure on a much more serious scale than a collapsing bridge, a collapsing coal mine, failing city infrastructure, or the overburdened power grid. The all important & delicate balance of power of the three main branches of our Government is at risk of being permanently ‘out of balance’—with the Executive Branch reigning supreme. This would be a disaster from which there would be no recovery. We have to prevent it.
If George Bush & Dick Cheney are allowed to continue their usurpation of power from our Congress, ‘balance of power’ will become a thing of the past. Once the Executive Branch has succeeded in completing their intimidation of Congress into relinquishing its power of oversight, there is no restoration. WHO WOULD DO IT?!? Not even an armed revolution could ‘dethrone’ the Executive Branch considering that the Executive Branch ‘owns’ the military.
Impeachment of Bush & Cheney has recently been made easier than ever by the Administration. Their proclamation that ‘Executive Privilege’ gives them blanket protection from any inquiry from Congress has left Congress only two choices: 1.) they can concede all oversight of the Executive Branch and allow the stonewalling to continue; or, 2.) they can begin impeachment proceedings which are immune to shields of ‘Executive Privilege’. Given that it's boiled down to those two choices, what may have once been an agonizing decision for our Congressional Reps has become a ‘no-brainer’.
FOLKS, THE TIME TO SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY IS NOW—2008 is way too late! Yes, this is preaching to the choir; but the choir has to go out and do some preaching—and we have to do it now!
It’s no doubt an uphill battle—at least it is still doable—but time is running out. We have to wake up our Congressional Representatives and get impeachment not only ‘on the table’, but it has the take the highest priority. This is not a ‘Democrats vs. Republicans’ matter—it’s a ‘Congress-for-Democracy vs. Executive-for-Supremacy’ crisis. In your appeal to your Representative you need to be prepared for their pet excuses.
One of their favorite excuses is that they don’t want to be distracted from other important things they’re doing. What have they actually gotten done except the things King George has approved?—a little, yes, but not much. Ending the war is at the top of the list of things Congress hasn’t been able to do because of the stubborn resistance of the wannabe King.
Before you say, “they could cut off the funding”, you have to picture what would most likely happen if funding were cut off—with these conscienceless, ruthless ‘leaders’ in control. Instead of starting the withdrawal of troops in a responsible, calculated manner, the administration would leave the troops in the field, or at least drag out a withdrawal; and we’d all watch the troops run out of supplies. If you’re thinking, “aw, they wouldn’t do that”, just consider all the equally egregious things they’ve already done. They’d do it just to be able to say, “I told you so” and for political posturing.
In order to prepare yourself for the other pet excuses you’ll hear regarding impeachment, whether you’re talking to your Representative or your brother-in-law, check out the FAQ section on the Home Page of this site.
PUT IN A WAKE UP CALL TO YOUR REPRESENTATIVE
[and your brother-in-law]…and please remember…
…Impeachment begins the restoration of world respect for the USA; that inspires multinational help for us in Iraq; and that facilitates our responsible withdrawal.
