Spineless Congress Sidesteps Cheney Impeachment Vote

On Tuesday, November 6th Congress once again condoned the criminal behavior of Vice-President Dick 'Torture' Cheney by avoiding a straight up or down vote on HR 333, instead sending the bill to languish in the judiciary committee. Nancy 'Traitor' Pelosi and her henchmen made sure the legislation failed as John Conyers, the head of the judiciary committee, is on record as opposing impeachment with the excuse that Congress has more pressing issues like healthcare for children and the war in Iraq.

What is more pressing than:

  • stopping the expansion of conflict in the middle east by halting the planned military strike on Iran?
  • stopping the consolidation of power by the President through use of signing statements and other means thereby restoring the balance of power and protecting the people, our nation and the world from great harm being done to them by a rogue President?
  • ending kidnapping, extraordinary rendition and torture which makes our country a hypocrite in the eyes of the world and a favorite target?
  • stopping the privatization of the military wherein private mercenaries can be used to engage in conflict and commit crimes with complete immunity, or invade and occupy sovereign states even when there is no support for such an action (Iraq)?
  • stopping the pillage the US Treasury through no-bid contracts by administration cronies?

The list above is a short list.

The American people are not stupid. A recent Gallup poll gave Congress an 18% approval rating, lower than even the President. The people know that with very few exceptions, our elected members of Congress no longer represent us. The overwhelming majority merely pander to the big money special interests, cower in the face of threats and bullying from the White House and/or Congressional leadership (pimps) and at the end of the day, really just look out for number one.

Impeaching Cheney would have gone a long way towards restoring democracy and giving the people back their nation. We the people must continue to force the issue of impeaching Cheney and then Bush before its too late and we find ourselves under martial law in a world war.
